Acknowledging My Negative Cognition through EMDR with Heather Holop

If you have followed Jess’s healing journey over the last years, you know your girl has got a little bit of trauma. And no longer wanting to live her life through a lens of pain, she did EVERYTHING to try to change that, from Reiki to hypnosis to therapy. But nothing could have prepared her for the things she uncovered through EDMR.

So in this episode, founder of Therapeutic Serendipity and licensed clinical social worker Heather Holop, joins the show to discuss what EDMR is, why it might be right for you, and how her own journey is one of the reasons she’s so great at what she does.

KEY POINTS:

  • What is EMDR?
  • Diving into Jess’s negative cognitions
  • Why memories are not intrinsically painful
  • Are we lying to ourselves or coping?
  • Where do we go wrong with boundaries?
  • “When are we healed?”

QUOTABLES:

“It's always something deeper, but they just usually want to work on the stuff that's present. The stuff that’s, I call it, the crisis of the week. I call it chasing cows.”

“Your brain stays so focused on the trauma that it doesn't like the truth. And the thought that we develop about ourselves in those moments is actually what is painful. It's not the memory, because the memory only exists in your mind.”

Listening to this episode made me view a lot of things different. As humans we sometime need the motivation form others or just this inspiring words. Or sometimes we just need to hear someone else story. Listening to both Jessica and Chris story gave me the motivation I needed to get back in my grind and do what I feel so patiently about. I would suggest if you have listened to her podcast that you start doing so! Keep up the good work girl! 😘😘
